we need templates for different pages
we need to work out organisation structer in liferay
we need roles defind in lifray
we need to get the announcement portal to send out e-mails as default rather than website notifications
issues
Removed issueslab sport from Olympics feed as the links were quite low quality.
Tobe looked at
http://www.liferay.com/community/forums/-/message_boards/message/4591841 ideas for developing liferay theams
- Removing the flags at the bottom of the template and replacing them with text

Local/subject news
We need a place for local views (aggregation pages) such as hackny, london, ant-war etc.
- RSS agreagter from local blogs and news sites (feed informer)
- show player with taged videos
- VOTV blog posts (asset publisher) users can then publish to the page by tagged publishing on there personal pages.
- LINK's and info portal
We need to set-up a permissions/roles structure to make these pages DIY managed.
OK some current problems with website
- we need a "unbranded template" for user pages - that is one with out the commerty logo.
- we need to change the sign out timing to say 5 hours rather than one hour as it times out when uploading long films and is tedious to keep login in.
- URGENT we need to change the default for the annoucement portal from on web to e-mail (tom says we might have to run a SQL update scrip to do this) Any ideas?
- FIXED the walls on personal pages seam a bit flacky
- we are having some permission problems on blog posts not appearing on front pages if the user isn't logged in
- need to re-think linking to external sites?
- Need to add a mypage link at end of top bar so users can get to there pages when logged in. LIke http://liferay.com has
- the images on the front page top bar sometimes get lost.
- The navigation portal needs to look better
- some portals refresh the whole page when updating - the forum is problematic for this.
frazers review
- the sign up process was tedious,
- openID with my livejournal ID didn't work,
- so when I used my myspace openID,
- you still asked lots of personal questions,
- people want to sign up in 3 seconds...
- all that detail at the start is such a turn off...
- AND THEN... you made me read a whole page of terms and conditions...
- most people have left now....
- AND THEN... you made me fill out more stuff about password reminder questions....
- crappiest sign up process... EVER!!!
- on profile page, its not clear what the circles ... - + x mean, an image desc should pop up saying what they are
- when clicking on configure my profile I get a wierd page
Role ------ View ----- Configuration
Guest
Owner
Power User
User
whatever that means
- clicked to go to my account and it took me to log in again, then when I did, got an empty page
- I have had to re-sign in 5 times now
- so this was all to complex,
- once i got in to my user profile page, It was too hard to find my way back to the real pages... had to click on a little tab saying visionontv to get back to all the real pages....
- the save button on the account page is hard to find
- the discontinuity between the control panel and the community pages is hard to follow
- on every page, there are flags for internationalisation. non-english speakers wont go to the bottom so wont find flags
- when I went to edit my profile, it asks for a jira login...
- I have no jira id and I thought it was asking for more passwords...
- I think it might have signed me up as an admin,
- hence all the confusing extra functions for me...
- people should get pleb accounts on sign up,
- without to many privilages..
SteveD's thoughts
I've recently got involved to help out a bit on the techy side (but I'm not the geek-we-seek). Some early thoughts around issues of usability/accessibility:-
There's already been some effort made (by Hamish?) to look into RSS feeds, etc. At present there's no intuitive way a new visitor to the site can get to a directory of content - what they're confronted with is rolling content (of high res video) downloading in the background. ClimateCampTV offers a slight improvement - there's a sidebar from which the user can clunkily navigate through the list. In both cases there's no way to (eg right-click) on something and then to Copy its Link Location so as to link to it. OK if you're in the know there's the Screenings page and content can be bookmarked/DL'd from there, but not a lot of people do know that!
Even if you hit pause, vids continue to download in the background. At present the site works for those on big fat unlimited broadband connections, but is completely alienating for any on low bandwidth. The pre-loading in background is one issue here. The other is the difficulty of finding low-res versions of the content: youTube plays on slower PCs/connnections than does Vimeo/Blip.

Hamish's replys
A. to Franzer - we do need to simplify the create account option
A. SteveD - we are bringing all the content into the site so that it can be displayed/searched and commented upon. This is a programming job which needs the funding.
On bandwith issues am having problems getting a clean "channel" search/RSS feed out of youtube for now you can get the videos in lots of different ways on the http://visionon.tv/bestvideos page.
- we need a tag search WITHIN a user account as RSS on youtube
